Kitten pickup & transportation

Russian Blue Kitten Pickup and Transportation

Bringing a kitten home is a big moment for both the kitten and the family. I want that transition to be as gentle as possible. Here are some practical ways to prepare, along with the arrangements you'll want to confirm before traveling.

Before pickup

Plan a safe, calm journey together.

My kittens normally go to their new homes at 12 to 14 weeks or later, once they are ready and at least a week after their last kitten vaccination. Please ask about the individual kitten's homecoming date and what paperwork will accompany them. A secure, well-ventilated carrier and a quiet trip will make the journey easier.

Pickup times and locations should be confirmed with me before travel. If you'd like to discuss delivery or another transport option, please ask about what is actually available instead of assuming a particular route or service.

Travel-day checklist

Small preparations can make arrival feel gentler.

01

Choose a carrier

Use a sturdy carrier with secure closures, airflow, and a comfortable absorbent lining. Avoid holding a kitten loose in a vehicle.

02

Gather confirmed records

Bring only the records, instructions, and contact details that have been provided and confirmed for the individual kitten.

03

Ready the first room

Set up food, water, litter, a resting spot, and a quiet safe space before the kitten arrives so the transition is unhurried.

Travel considerations

Ground and air travel require different planning.

Ground transportation: Keep the carrier secured, maintain a comfortable temperature, and avoid unnecessary stops or handling. Plan breaks and duration with the kitten’s welfare in mind.

Air transportation: Airline rules, carrier specifications, documentation, weather limitations, and booking requirements vary. Do not assume air travel is offered or appropriate; verify every detail with the airline, owner, and a veterinarian where needed.

Documentation: Ask what veterinary or travel records may be needed for your situation. Requirements can vary by destination and method of travel.

After arrival

Let the kitten decompress at home.

Bring the carrier into the prepared first room, open it when the space is secure, and let the kitten emerge on their own timeline. Keep introductions gradual and follow veterinary guidance for any health concern.
